Romantic Religious Music from Belgium

César Franck (1822-1890), the composer for organ par excellence composed Offertoire Domine Deus in 1871, the year in which he took French nationality in order to be able to teach at the Paris Conservatory. This offertory song expresses the righteous simplicity in our hearts: in simplicitate cordis mei.

(1 Kron. 29,17-18)

Domine Deus, in simplicitate cordis mei
Lætus obtuli universa:
Et populum tuum, qui repertus est
Vidi cum ingenti gaudio:
Deus Israël, custodi hanc voluntatem,
Deus Israël.
