Josep-Ramon Olivé

Born in Barcelona in 1988, Josep-Ramon Olivé started his musical studies in the Escolania of Montserrat where apart from receiving both vocal and choral training he studied piano and cello. In June 2010 he finished his studies of Choral Conduction in the ESMuC (Catalonia Advanced School of Music) with Josep Vila and Johan Duijck, and in 2012 he also did a Singing Degree in the same school with Mireia Pintó. Currently he is taking a Singing Master’s in the prestigious Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London with the professor Rudolf Piernay.

He has performed the Oratorios Purcell’s Come ye sons of art and Ode for St. Cecilia’s day, Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem, Fauré’s Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem and Vesperae Solenne de Confessore, Händel’s Dixit Dominus and Bach’s B minor Mass, Magnificat, Cantatas BWV 4, 62, 104, 131, 140 and 147 and Weinachtsoratorium. In the opera field he has sung the roles Il conte (Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro), Aeneas (Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas), Frank (Strauss’ Die Fledermaus), Marquis de la Force (Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites) and Uberto (Pergolesi’s La Serva Padrona). As a lieder performer he did the cycles as Die schöne Magelone (Brahms), Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen (Mahler), An die ferne Geliebte (Beethoven) or Die schöne Müllerin (Schubert) among others.

He has been able to work with great conductors like Jordi Savall, Lluís Vilamajó, Sigiswald Kuijken, Gorka Sierra, Jordi Mora, Salvador Mas, Michael Thomas or Xavier Puig and has participated in renowned European Festivals like la Settimane Baroche di Breschia, il Festival Anima Mundi of Pisa, le Festival Musique et Histoire d’Ambronay, AMUZ Festival van Vlaanderen-Antwerpen or la Folle Journée de Nantes. As a soloist he has given concerts accompanied by the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, the Orquesta Ciudad de Almería, the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès, the Orquestra Barroca Catalana and the Orquestra Terrassa 48’.

In 2008 Josep-Ramon won the 1st Competition for young singers organised by the Catalan Association of Singing Teachers. One year later he received 1st Prize at the Competition of lyric singing of Premià de Mar in Barcelona (Spain). He was awarded the 'Young Talent’s Award' at the Mirabent i Magrans Singing Competition and won 2nd Prize at the Concurso Permanente de Jóvenes Intérpretes de 'Juventudes Musicales de España', both in 2011. He also received fellowships from both Victoria de los Angeles Foundation and Anna Riera Foundation. He has recorded for Columna Música and Musièpoca labels.

Usually he works together with the Capella Reial de Catalunya (Jordi Savall) and he has collaborated with groups such as the Collegium Vocale of Gent (Philippe Herreweghe) and the Coro Barroco de Andalucía (Lluís Vilamajó). In September 2011 he joined the Ambronay European Baroque Academy singing in Bach’s B minor Mass, under Sigiswald Kuijken. Josep-Ramon also made his debut in the Liceu Theatre of Barcelona with a concert organised by the Victoria de los Ángeles Foundation. In March of 2012 he performed Orfeo in L’Orfeo de Monteverdi in the Teatro Real of Madrid.
